What is Neural Performance Training (NPT)?

Here’s an example.

Let’s say you are running over hilly terrain. The constant up and down movement is an input to your brain. But let’s say you also suffer from some vertigo, or you have trouble with balance, and you also had a knee injury from a fall many years ago.

 

What does your brain have as information? Uncertainty of which way is up (vertigo) and lots of rolling terrain coming in front of you (vision).

The brain then realizes that falling down and possible injury could be a real threat. The brain wants to prevent this outcome by slowing you down. What options does it have based on our short history? Your brain can make you feel sick (nausea from vertigo) or it could produce some knee pain (from your previous injury).

Are you in any real danger? No!

But your brain thinks you are.

Neural Performance Training teaches the brain how to accurately process inputs from your environment. Too many of us live life bombarded by false “danger signals.”
